Elon University Poll results on immigration, education

A new Elon University Poll finds that 63 percent of North Carolinians disagree with proposals that would allow undocumented immigrants to stay in the U.S. as long as they have a job.

The poll, conducted November 13-16 by the Elon University Institute for Politics and Public Affairs, surveyed 533 North Carolina residents. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percent. In the survey, immigration was defined as “the undocumented immigration of Hispanic or Latino populations into North Carolina.”

The poll found that 56 percent of citizens said the immigration of Hispanics or Latinos to North Carolina in recent years has been bad for the state, up from 44 percent in an April 2006 Elon Poll. Fifty-three percent agreed with the statement “immigrants today are a burden on the state because they take jobs, housing and health care,” down from 57 percent in April.

NC is a factory state, it has lots of well paying manufacturing jobs you know those "jobs Americans won't do" again. NC is ripe for the picking, and I'm not talking about fruit either. NC is also a growing state and construction jobs are everywhere so its like having out a welcome sign, we have some friends that own a construction company down in Dare County. How are your Senators standing on this issue?
Reply:Well it is estimated that 80% of AMERICANS are against the Senate's pile of horse poo-poo.

Your state has intellient people in it! Too bad the Senate is full of twits and morons!
Reply:I agree with the polls. I have nothing against people immigrating legally to the US. I do not have problem with Mexicans immigrating to the US. I do have a problem with illegal immigrants all coming over at once.

The big issue for me is not that illegal immigrants take jobs from Americans, but that they depress the wages of workers everywhere in the US and put labor in a weakened position. Both immigrant and native labor get screwed when employers get away with hiring illegal immigrants at poverty wages.

It also does not help Mexico and the situation of Mexicans. Mexico is a corrupt country and illegal immigration acts like a safety valve keeping the ruling party in power. If there was no illegal immigration, there would have been a bloody revolution overthrowing the corrupt elites by now.

I know most Mexicans and Central Americans are good hardworking people, but if they are illegal immigrants, they should be deported.
Reply:bush is not going to listen to the people in any way. he is going to keep pushing his bull crap bill.
Reply:Did anyone see how Iran marched 100,000 refugees back to the Afghan border???? I don't agree with Iran on hardly a bit of anything they believe in, but sometimes those people can come up with solutions to their dilemmas that the U.S. should instill...Hasn't anybody heard of "the trail of tears"??? Brute force is always an option....
Reply:You are just a posting freak today Dreaming, lol I have to look into Indiana.

Reply:Very nice, Hope you don't get zapped by Y/A posting questions, in which you actually cause people to become aware of this fraud. However I for one believe, Americans

will come together to defeat, this Juggernaut launched by

both Parties against Americans.
Reply:I'm from the Upper Ohio Valley. Locally, there have been well over a hundred illegals found on different worksites. This area is just starting an economic rebound, after the steel and coal industry was devastated by the inaction of Congress to stop the dumping of cheap foreign steel and coal into the US market. Now retail outlets are moving in and there are some construction jobs popping up. Guess where the illegals are being found? A couple were sent here from a company located in Georgia. The citizens here have been praying for some decent work opportunities to arise, and it is disgusting that they have to compete with ILLEGALS for work. Our Congress is a sham, and needs to be replaced every four years, no incumbents ever! People like Kennedy and Lott and a host of others should not be allowed to spend their entire lives, sitting in Washington, living large and making decisions that adversly affect American Citizens.
