Why is washing hands after urination such a big deal ? Is a penis much more bacteria laden than usual skin ?

NBC just made a big deal about a survey result relating to this issue ... I cannot see why one skin surface is going to be much more bacteria-laden than, say, our hands, for example. Perhaps most of this is pure psychological ... The yew factor ...

I have to admit you have a point there, skin on the penis isn't likely to be any dirtier than skin elsewhere and its likely to be cleaner than skin on the face which you're more likely to touch. Urine itself is sterile but... Washing hands is a big deal - especially in the food industry. Surfactants and careful drying afterwards removes a lot of bacteria. If you must, just tell yourself washing your hands after visiting the lavatory is a convenient time to get the dirt off them that came from everything else you did with your hands.
Reply:It does seem to be mostly psychologial than anything else. But considering what you are doing, it's also mostly just good hygiene because accidents can happen.
