Why should letter grades be eliminated?

I'm do a debate for school and I need some good reasons why to eliminate letter grades. I've been trying to find survey results affirming this issue.

Why should letter grades be eliminated?
Well just thinking about it for a minute I came up with this:

Suppose you have a student who gets a 100% A on something, then suppose that another person just barely gets an A (95 or 90 whichever grade scale applies). If you just looked at the letter grade then the two students in comparison would be equal but if you did percentages then you would find the difference between them.

Pretty much, the letter grades loosely group students within limits while percentage score or something similar are more exact.

Edit: I'm not sure if this is how it works for colleges but the same thing might apply there too, how the selecting process goes by letter grade rather then raw percentage. While one person could have been at the top of their class, with letter grades, is at the same point as someone who barely got by (high A compared to low A).
Reply:Look up self fullfilling prophecies or social stigma as it relates to grades. You can also search self efficacy (how we feel we will do and why we do or do not do well). Educational Psych is what you want to dip into.
